Full Circle

// March 24th, 2010 // Randomness

It’s been a bit. No, let me restate that. It has been a lot more then a bit. I have created and built many, many, many other web sites over the last few years. Some of them I was paid for while others were ones I just had to make. Some I thought “I could get rich with this site!” while still others paid out in their own ways. Then it hit me. No not really hit, more like when you walk into a room and catch a smell of some foul odor. Only it comes and goes so fast you are not really sure if you smelled anything at all. I decided to go back to where this whole craziness of web sites started; the beginning. So we have come full circle it would seem.

It did surprise me however, when I logged in and seen just how much stuff this domain had gathered over the last few years. It was like taking a trip down memory lane. This being my first domain I have owned, I had many random folders with stuff after saying saying “Oh! I can host that.” But no more. Spring cleaning fever took over and if I was going to redo this site I was going to redo it right and so the lot had to go. I did back up all 800 megs of it.

My first site, or the old AllenWhittaker.ca was modeled off of another web site I went to often. While I did copy 70% of the theme, I did recreate all the images myself. I also made fancy buttons that had a soft mirror below them. A fairly simply photo shop trick, but adds just that little touch of awesome.

This site, incase you can’t tell is run by word press with a theme over top of it. Over the last few months I have really grown to like wordpress and have taken a few lessons on hacking it from a friend. By hacking I mean using it to show information in non-wordpress themes. I very much enjoy using wordpress as a content management system, even though I have built my own from the ground up. You need only to look at www.MrWhittaker.ca, my classroom web site to see what I am talking about.

I think I can truly be happy with this layout and colour scheme. At least for now. Apparently according to some it “suites” me. We shall test this theory out I am sure.

It’s kind of tacky to tell people what this site will be about, even when I don’t even really know, But I wanted a place where I could voice ideas, as well as photos and such and have it be my own. So that is what it will be. Don’t expect to see to many updates in the form of posts. My last site saw one about every 3 months. Which is fine by me, because some times the word unspoken is a wise one.
